Reducing Poverty and Restoring the American Dream

February 9, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The American Enterprise Institute and the Brookings Institute released “A Consensus Plan for Reducing Poverty and Restoring the American Dream.”   The PPE Program is hosting a one day intensive seminar, with two of the co-authors, Robert Doar (AEI) and Richard Reeves (Brookings), and with William Darity Jr. (Duke) — for students, faculty, and members of the broader community.  In the spirit of the consensus report, this event is not a debate nor an exchange of sound bites, but an intensive exploration and discussion of the prospects for effectively reducing poverty in the US.

The event schedule is as follows:

9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., Registration

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Session I: Richard Reeves

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Session II: Robert Doar

12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., Lunch (provided)

1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., Session III: William Darity

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Session IV: Panel Discussion

The event is made possible by generous support from the Institute for Humane Studies.
