PPE Salon: How Would a Child Allowance Impact the American Workforce for Women?

March 8, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Host:
Delaney Thull

Salon Description:
2.5 million women left the American workforce since the beginning of the pandemic, compared to 1.8 million men. The impacts of job loss and childcare loss ignited a national conversation about family leave policies, childcare and schooling, and gender disparities in the household. One fascinating aspect of this debate is growing bipartisan interest in some form of a Child Allowance payment to American families. Our Salon will focus on understanding how such a policy might impact American women. What is lost when women exit the workforce? What difficulties are faced by working American women who want to have children? Ought we to see homemaking and caregiving as a form of economic production?

Join us for an evening of thoughtful, lively discussion about women in the workforce and family leave policy, with host Delaney Thull.

This opportunity is available to both UNC students and the PPE community. Registration is required, and seats are limited. Request your seat by using the form below.
