Workshop: PPE Philanthropy Project
September 7 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
The inaugural PPE Philanthropy Project workshop seeks to match foundations with faculty, graduate students, and advanced undergraduates students who can deliver imaginative responses to philanthropy’s knottiest challenges and questions. Participants will bring expertise in the philosophical, political, and economic forces that shape public life. The PPE Program is launching the project to explore ways PPE research and practice can increase philanthropy’s effectiveness and value to society.
At this workshop, leaders from four foundations will each take 20-30 minutes to deliver a relaxed presentation (no PPT required) that features one or more challenges or questions. Foundation leaders will also describe the relevant processes and cultural norms and values that make their organizations distinctive. The PPE Philanthropy Project realizes one foundation differs from another – and that increasingly donors are turning to hybrid systems and original structures to operate outside the lanes of traditional philanthropy. Following each presentation, the workshop will provide time for Q&A with students.
Learn More About Participating Foundations Here
Through lunch, students and foundation leaders will continue the conversation.
Following lunch, students will have time to propose ways they imagine taking on a foundation project. The students’ engagement may occur through a Capstone Seminar project, where the student project satisfies a capstone course requirement for Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 and also produces a deliverable for the foundation, or via an independent project. In addition to PPE students, we anticipate the participation of graduate students from several fields, including Public Policy and Public Health. The PPE Philanthropy Project is open to creative ways for students to form mutually beneficial relationships with participating foundations. Engagements outside of the capstone course requirement are welcome.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. PLEASE REQUEST YOUR SEAT USING THE FORM BELOW. PPE minors in their junior/senior years and PPE-Affiliated Graduate Students will receive priority.
