Free Speech on Campus

The event focuses on the current state of free expression on college campuses and features the following panelists:

  • Greg LukianoffPresident & CEO of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education and co-author of New-York Times Bestseller The Coddling of the American Mind
  • Dr. Sigal Ben-PorathProfessor of Education at the Penn Graduate School of Education and author of Free Speech on Campus

The moderator is UNC’s own Prof. Kevin Marinelli (Executive Director of the UNC Program for Public Discourse).

As part of #UNCResearchWeek, a portion of the discussion will focus on the“Free Expression and Constructive Dialogue at UNC-Chapel Hill” report composed by UNC Profs. Jennifer Larson, Mark McNeilly, and Timothy Ryan. You can read more about their conclusions and find a link to the full report on The Daily Tar Heel.

 

Additionally, UNC students are invited to participate in an exclusive follow-up conversation with Greg Lukianoff the next day, Oct. 21st, at 10:00 am via Zoom. They’ll be able to share their thoughts about the topic and discuss their own experiences on UNC’s campus while asking the panelist about his research and work. Attendance to Free Speech on Campus is not required for this meeting, but it is encouraged.
