Capstone Request Form

PPE Students,

Thank you for your interest in the fall 2023 PPE Capstone Seminar!

As you’ve likely seen on ConnectCarolina, the two sections we will offer in the fall are:

PHIL/POLI/ECON 698.001 – Philosophy, Politics, and Economics: Capstone Course
Instructor: Tom Dougherty. This course meets R 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. in PE 2066.

PHIL/POLI/ECON 698.002 – Philosophy, Politics, and Economics: Capstone Course
Instructor: Erik Zhang. This course meets MW 3:35 – 4:50 p.m. in DE 209.

These courses are prioritized for graduating seniors. We understand that it is often convenient to complete an academic minor before senior year, but the PPE Minor is intentionally structured in this way to provide you with the best PPE Capstone experience possible. Since this is currently being requested in the spring 2023 semester, students will be considered “eligible” seniors only if projected to graduate in fall 2023 or spring/summer 2024. We will, however, consider special circumstances for those studying abroad who need to complete the Capstone early and successfully to graduate.

As you may have realized, you will not be able to register yourself for this class. To be enrolled, please use our official enrollment request form below. If your request is approved, you will see it in your schedule soon after your enrollment window. If it is not approved, you will hear from us.

Please also be sure that you have space for the course addition in your schedule. This means you need to make sure the time slot you’re aiming for is free in your schedule, and also make sure you’re enrolled in 14 hours or fewer for the spring semester. This is based on University-wide credit hour limits. If you are enrolled in more than 14 hours for the spring semester, I will be unable to add you to the class.

All enrollment will be done on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t wait too long to decide! Once again, this course is only open to PPE minors who need the Capstone class to graduate between fall 2023-spring 2024 (this includes the summer semesters). We will enroll eligible students in the order in which they have completed the  enrollment request form (below) until all sections are full or all students have been accommodated.

Please let us know if you have any questions by emailing us at

The capstone seat request form is now closed. There will be more offerings next semester, and spring graduates will have the utmost priority.
